Toyota Recalls Over 500,000 Cars
April 2008
Toyota Motor Corporation has recalled 539,500 Corolla and Matrix
cars due to a defect in the automobiles' power window system. The system
can become loose and cause the window to shatter, posing a safety hazard
to passengers.
The recall affects 2003-2004 model year Corolla and Matrix cars with power windows. Toyota said that is has received 143 reports of incidents and 15 reports of injuries involving defective power windows. Bolts at the bottom of the power window assembly can become loose, causing the window to rattle or shatter.
Affected cars are in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. territories. Toyota said the condition will cause an "abnormal noise" to occur when the power windows are operated. Toyota will notify owners of involved vehicles in late April.
