PA Ranks 36th in National Drivers Test Results
The 2009 National Drivers Test results have been released by GMAC
Insurance, and Pennsylvania
drivers ranked 36th among all 50 states and the District of
Columbia, with a score of 75.4. The test was given to over 5,000 drivers
across the United States and assessed basic knowledge of driving laws
and safety.
This is the fifth year the test has been administered. According to the 2009 results, about 20.1 percent of licensed drivers, or 41 million people, wouldn't pass a written drivers test exam if they took it today. Most drivers had difficulty with questions about safe following distances and yellow lights.
Idaho and Wisconsin tied for the highest score with an 80.6, and New York was this year's loser, with a score of 51. Regionally, states in the Midwest received the highest averages and the Northeast averaged the lowest test scores. Also, older drivers did better than younger drivers – those over 35 were more likely to pass than those under 35.
