Ford Recalls SUVs and Vans due to Safety Hazards
February 2008
Ford Motor Company announced that it is recalling more than 180,000
sport utility vehicles and vans in two separate recalls. The recalls are
in response to potentially defective door handles and fuel hoses in
several models.
The larger recall affects approximately 124,000 2007-2008 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs. The spring system in the inside door handles can break, preventing the handles from returning to a closed position. In a side crash, there is a risk of the door latch opening.
The second recall involves more than 57,000 2006-2007 model E-150, E-250, and E-350 vans and 2007 Expedition and Navigator SUVs with 5.4 liter engines. The vehicles’ engine fuel rail crossover hose can crack and leak fuel, potentially leading to a fire. The recalls are expected to begin later this month for the handle spring and in March for the fuel hose.
