Ford Recalls 155,000 Trucks and SUVs

March 2007

A defective cruise-control-switch system has led the Ford Motor Co. to recall about 155,000 vehicles. This is not the first recall due to the faulty cruise-control system, as 5.8 million vehicles from model years 1994-2002 were previously impacted.

This recall pertains to the 2003 model year, notifying drivers that the F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty truck, the Ford Excursion SUV and the Lincoln Blackwood pickup require repairs. If brake fluid leaks and corrodes the cruise-control-switch system, it could overheat the vehicle and cause an engine fire.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not confirmed any deaths or injuries related directly to the problem. However, several Arkansas, Georgia, and Iowa lawsuits have cited engine fires stemming from the cruise-control-switch system as the alleged cause of death. Ford reached a settlement in the Iowa case last December.
