Ford Recalls 1.2 Million Trucks
December 2007
After recalling millions of vehicles for faulty cruise control switches,
the Ford Motor Company has initiated a new recall due to a defect that
could cause engines to stall out. The manufacturer has recalled 1.2
million Ford models equipped with 7.30-liter diesel engines.
The recall applies to trucks, vans, and SUVs from 1997 through 2003. E-series vans, Excursion SUVs, and F-series Super Duty trucks could potentially carry the defect that causes a camshaft sensor to degrade over time.
The major risk resulting from the camshaft position sensor flaw is that the engines inside the recalled vehicles may stall out while moving. If the sensor is degraded enough to cause the engine to stall, the driver can lose control of the vehicle and end up in a car crash.
