More Vehicles Added to Ford Recall
August 2006
Ford is increasing their recall of vehicles with faulty cruise control systems. The recall, that already affects millions of vehicles, was prompted because the systems can cause fires. The brake fluid in these vehicles may leak from the switch that deactivates the cruise control and onto an electrical component, causing corrosion and possibly igniting a fire.
The expanded recall includes:
- 1994 through 2002 Ford models of Super Duty pickup trucks:
- F-250
- F-350
- F-450
- F-550
- 2000 through 2004 Ford Excursions
- 1994 through 1996 Ford Econoline vans
- 1996 through 2002 E-450 vans
- 1998 Ford Explorers
- 1998 Mercury Mountaineers
Ford has agreed to install protective wire harnesses near the cruise control systems of all 6.7 million vehicles included in the recall.
