Pennsylvania New Year's Car Crash Statistics
January 2008
The Pennsylvania State Police have released their car accident
statistics for this New Year’s travel period and the results look grim.
The long weekend in which Pennsylvanians celebrated the arrival of 2008
has claimed over 250 percent more lives than last year’s holiday weekend.
The 2008 New Year’s holiday driving period saw eight deaths due to traffic accidents. Of the eight people who died this year, six were not wearing seat belts. According to 2007 statistics, only three people died due to Pennsylvania car crashes during the New Year’s travel period.
This year, a total of 1,250 accidents injured 334 people during the five-day driving period lasting from Friday through Tuesday. This year’s crashes include 108 drunk driving accidents that claimed two lives. Last year, 245 people were hurt in 659 crashes during the four-day New Year’s driving period.
