KYMCO Recalls Dangerous ATVs
January 2008
A Taiwanese manufacturer of all-terrain vehicles, KYMCO, has initiated a
recall of their MXU 500 model ATVs. The recalled quads have a rear
suspension defect that could lead to injury or death of ATV operators.
KYMCO MXU 500s from model years 2006-2008 are included in the recall. The models were sold in the United States from November 2006 to December 2007. To identify a recalled ATV, check the front for a “KYMCO” label and the side of the fuel tank for a “MXU 500” label.
The recall has been prompted by a MXU 500 defect that could allow the rear suspension to become loose from the vehicle’s frame. If this happens, the rear swing arm of the KYMCO ATV can detach from the chassis, leading to a crash resulting in serious injury or death. Six incidents and two injuries have been reported.
