Alaska Motorcycle Helmet Law
In the past, a person 18 or older "may not" be required to wear a helmet when operating a motorcycle if the operator held a motorcycle license in Alaska.
This law was challenged as vague, because the law, as written, was unclear as to the precise helmet requirements. As written, the law seemed to require that only operators under 18 are required to wear helmets.
The law now requires that all motorcycle passengers wear helmets.
The law also requires that anyone subject to wear a helmet must wear a helmet that conforms to the standards established by regulation by Alaska's Public Safety Commissioner. Standards dictate that a helmet must allow for normal peripheral vision, normal hearing, and it must minimize neck injuries to the wearer.
