Mesothelioma
Legal Help for Victims of Asbestos-Related Cancers

Did you work in a job that exposed you to asbestos? Have you been diagnosed with mesothelioma?
If so, you know that it’s a very serious disease. But did you also know that you may have a case?
What is Mesothelioma?
Beginning in the 1950s, millions of Americans were unknowingly exposed to the dangers of asbestos on the job, in schools, and even at home. Thousands of people are diagnosed annually with deadly cancers caused by asbestos, including mesothelioma.
Malignant mesothelioma (also referred to as “meso”) is the most serious of all asbestos-related diseases. It’s a rare form of cancer in which deadly cancer cells are found near the lungs, heart, or abdomen. The cancer may spread to other parts of the body.
Mesothelioma is usually diagnosed in its advanced stages, because the symptoms can take 20 to 50 years to appear. Symptoms vary, depending on the location of the cancer, and can include:
- Fluid in the lungs
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Cough
- Weight loss
- Fatigue
- Blood clots
Mesothelioma can be difficult to diagnose, because it shares common symptoms with many other diseases. Your life is cut short despite chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.
Who is at Risk for Mesothelioma?
Anyone exposed to asbestos risks developing mesothelioma, but generally these workers are at high risk:
- Miners
- Factory workers
- Insulation manufacturers
- Railroad workers
- Ship builders
- Gas mask manufacturers
- Construction workers
- Mill workers
However, even a little exposure to asbestos can cause mesothelioma. People who worked around asbestos – including even those who were exposed to it secondhand, like a woman who washed her husband’s work clothes – have died from mesothelioma or other asbestos-related illnesses. Even “Do-It-Yourself” people who renovate a home that was built in the 1940s or afterward may be exposed to asbestos.
