Lyrica

What is Lyrica?
Lyrica, known generically as pregabalin, is used to treat symptoms associated with neuropathic pain. The drug is also used to treat seizures in adults who are already taking one or more antiseizure medication. Manufactured by Pfizer, Lyrica was approved in 2004 as a substitute medication for Neurontin.
Patients typically prescribed the medication include:
- diabetes patients who need to manage nerve pain
- people with pain associated with shingles
- and those who combine seizure medicines to combat partial seizures
Possible Side Effects of Taking Lyrica
Lyrica may increase thoughts of suicide or suicide attempts. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has admitted a suicide link between patients taking Neurontin, a similar epilepsy drug used to also treat shingles and nerve pain.
