Dangerous Drug Alert: Diet Drug Fen-Phen
Please note: The Fen-Phen information on our site is for reference only. Due to Statute of Limitations requirements, our firm no longer accepts Fen-Phen drug claims for individuals injured as adults. However, some exceptions may apply to those injured by Fen-Phen as minors.
American Home Products, the makers of the diet drugs Fen-Phen, Redux and Pondimin, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania agreed to a settlement on August 28, 2000 for anyone who took these drugs and suffered injuries. American Home Products has set aside $12.25 billion for the settlement to handle all Fen-Phen injury claims. You may even be entitled to part of this settlement if you took Fen-Phen and you're healthy now but develop medical problems in the future.
Important Legal Update
The diet drug Fen-Phen was prescribed to combat obesity. The FDA removed Fen-Phen from the market after the Mayo Clinic announced that 24 Fen-Phen users developed heart valve problems. Some of these problems included mitral valve regurgitation, aortic valve abnormalities and primary pulmonary hypertension. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services suggested that anyone who took Fen-Phen, Redux or Pondimin, or who is displaying symptoms of heart or lung disease should see a doctor to determine if an echocardiogram should be done.
