What is Crestor?
Crestor, known generically as rosuvastatin, is a cholesterol lowering drug from the statin family. Manufactured by AstraZeneca, Crestor was approved for use by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in 2003.
Possible Side Effects of Taking Crestor
Crestor may cause serious muscle damage or liver damage. Patients who are 65 and older and have hypothyrodism or renal insufficiency have a greater risk for developing myopathy (muscle damage) while taking Crestor.
FDA Review of Crestor
A recent study, based on side effects reported to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), claimed that kidney problems and severe muscle weakness were two to eight times more frequent among Crestor users than those taking other cholesterol-lowering drugs. Researchers strongly recommend using Crestor only as a last resort.
