Accutane

Accutane, sold generically as isotretinoin, has been connected to severe bowel problems, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis – all forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Though this drug was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat serious acne, many users have received more than they bargained for when they contracted these painful bowel disorders. According to a recent article, there are at least 3,000 lawsuits that have been filed in the state of New Jersey for IBD-related side effects from taking Accutane.

What is Accutane?
Accutane, known generically as isotretinoin, was a prescription drug used to treat severe cases of acne. Manufactured by Roche, Accutane was prescribed when other acne treatments failed.
Accutane was removed from the United States market by Roche in July 2009. The manufacturer cited economic reasons, but some believe the drug was pulled due to increasing controversy over negative side effects.
Can Accutane Lead to IBD and Other Bowel Injuries?
Multiple research studies have connected isotretinoin, sold as Accutane, to IBD. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the two main forms of IBD, resulting in symptoms including:
- Abdominal Pain
- Blood in Stool
- Diarrhea
- Intestinal Discomfort
- Vomiting
- Weight Loss
Other Accutane Side Effects
Suicidal ideation and suicide are two other dangerous side effects that have been linked to Accutane. It also has been shown to cause Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), a serious skin disorder caused by many different dangerous drugs.
Accutane has also been connected to a host of negative side effects in the past, including depression, birth defects, and heart and liver problems.
Please note: Due to complex Statute of Limitations issues regarding Accutane, not all depression, birth defect, and heart and liver claims will be accepted.
