Pennsylvania Attorneys Representing Victims of Medtronic Sprint Fidelis Leads
What are Sprint Fidelis Leads?
A Sprint Fidelis heart defibrillator lead is a wire that carries electricity from an implanted defibrillator to the heart. Sales of Sprint Fidelis leads have been stopped by Medtronic, the product's manufacturer.
Possible Side Effects of Sprint Fidelis Leads
Patients may experience lead fractures that could shock them with unnecessary electricity or fail to provide a live-saving jolt to the heart.
Overview of Sprint Fidelis Leads
Medtronic, the nation’s largest maker of implantable heart devices, released the Sprint Fidelis defibrillator lead in September 2004. Since that time, about 268,000 Sprint Fidelis leads have been implanted during heart defibrillator surgeries or used as replacements for other defibrillator leads.
In October 2007, Medtronic suspended future sales of Sprint Fidelis defibrillator leads, and warned current patients and health care professionals about the risk of wire fracture. By this point, the leads had been linked to hundreds of known malfunctions and potentially contributed at least five deaths.
