Iowa Car Seat and Booster Seat Laws
Rear-Facing Car Seat
Children under age 1 or children who less than 20 pounds must be properly restrained in a rear-facing child safety seat.
Car Seat
- Infants through children age 5 must be in proper child safety seat.
- Children ages 6 through 10 must be in a child safety seat or safety belt.
Booster Seat
- Infants through children age 5 must be in proper child safety seat.
- Children ages 6 through 10 must be in a child safety seat or safety belt.
Seat Belt
- All children 8 through 13 years must use a safety belt.
- Children ages 4 through 7 who weigh more than 80 pounds must use a safety belt.
- Children ages 4 through 7 who are taller than 57 inches must use a safety belt.
Seating Position
Law states no preference.
