Tennessee Car Seat and Booster Seat Laws

Rear-Facing Car Seat
Children under the age of 1 who weigh less than 20 pounds must use a rear-facing child safty seat in the rear seat if available.
Car Seat
Children ages 1 to 3 who weigh more than 20 pounds must use a forward-facing child safety seat in the rear seat if available.
Booster Seat
Children ages 4 to 8 and less than 4′ 9" tall must use a booster seat in the rear seat if available.
Seat Belt
- Children ages 9 through 15.
- Any child 12 and younger who is 4′ 9" or taller.
Seating Position
- Children 8 years and younger and less than 4′ 9" must be in rear seat if available.
- Rear seat recommended for children ages 9 through 12.
