Louisiana Car Seat and Booster Seat Laws
Rear-Facing Car Seat
Children under the age of 1 or children who weigh less than 20 pounds must be properly restrained in a rear-facing child safety seat.
Car Seat
Children ages 1 through 3 or children who weigh 20 to 39 pounds must be in a forward-facing child safety seat.
Booster Seat
Children ages 4 through 5 or children who weigh 40 to 60 pounds must be in a booster seat.
Seat Belt
Children ages 6 through 12 or who children weigh more than 60 pounds can be restrained in a safety belt.
Seating Position
Law states no preference.
