Watson Pharmaceuticals Recalls Oversized Propafenone Tablets

March 2009

Watson Pharmaceuticals recalls oversized tablets. Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has recalled one lot of Propafenone HCL 225 mg tablets sold in 100 count bottles. Some tablets may be oversized and contain higher levels of the active ingredient than indicated, posing a health risk to some patients.

Lot number 112680A with expiration date July 31, 2010 is affected by the recall. The tablets were shipped to customers between October 15, 2008 and November 26, 2008. Anyone who has 225 mg Propafenone HCL tablets should check the bottle for the lot number and expiration date to see if they have tablets being recalled.

Propafenone is used to treat cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats). Patients who are particularly sensitive to small variations in dose could experience serious side effects, including irregular heartbeat or low blood pressure. Anyone with recalled Propafenone HCL tablets should call (888) 352-9616 for instructions on how to return the medication.
