Toyota Sequoia Added to Recalled Model List

April 2010

2003 Toyota Sequoia recall Toyota has announced plans to recall 50,000 Toyota Sequoia SUVs due to Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) systems that cause the vehicles to hesitate or slow down when moving at low speeds. All of the Sequoias affected by the recall were manufactured early in the 2003 model year.

VSC, also referred to as Electronic Stability Control, is a computerized system that manages the brakes and accelerator to help maintain vehicle control during abrupt maneuvers. In recalled vehicles, the VSC system can activate at low speeds (approximately 9 mph) and continue a few seconds after acceleration. This can cause the vehicle to increase in speed more slowly than anticipated.

Toyota fixed the problem for SUVs produced later in the 2003 model year and has been fixing the systems upon owner request since that time. If an owner had previously paid to have the problem fixed, Toyota will refund the cost of the repair.
