Nissan Infiniti G35 Coupes and Sedans Recalled Due to Airbag Problem

Nissan Motor Co has issued a recall that could affect over 130,000 of its luxury brand Infiniti G35 sedans and coupes. A faulty connector in the vehicles could prevent airbags from deploying in the event of a car accident, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA said that as many as 134,215 Infiniti G35 sedans from the 2005-2006 model years and G35 coupes from 2005-2007 model years are included in the recall. A Nissan spokesman said that approximately 65 percent of the affected vehicles are sedans and about 35 percent are coupes.

A wire harness for the airbags may wear down to the point that it could interrupt a signal to deploy the airbags during a crash. A red warning light will be displayed on the dashboard when the signal connection is disrupted, Nissan said. The automaker advises drivers to take their cars to an Infiniti dealer when this occurs. In cars where the red airbag signal is not lit, consumers will be notified soon by Nissan and Infiniti as to when they should bring their vehicles in for service.
