Television ads for Viagra won’t pepper your evening news breaks anymore. That’s because Pfizer, manufacturer of Viagra, is changing the way it advertises its prescription drugs.
This comes on the heels of criticism that drug maker Merck knew that its pain reliever Vioxx caused potentially deadly cardiovascular risks, but continued to aggressively promote the drug.
Pfizer will no longer promote any of its new drug treatments until they have been on the market for at least six months and will give people more information about the benefits and risks of drugs. In addition, Viagra, a heavily marketed impotency treatment, will target adult-only television audiences.
