Nestle Prepared Food Co. has announced the a recall of three of its Lean Cuisine entrees. The recall affects 879,000 pounds of a frozen chicken that might contain small pieces of blue plastic.
Nestle discovered the problem after consumer complaints and one injury report were filed. The Lean Cuisine frozen meals that have been recalled are Pesto Chicken with Bow Tie Pasta, Chicken Mediterranean, and Chicken Tuscan. They were all produced between August 18 and October 27 and distributed nationwide. All of the packages bear the USDA mark of inspection as well as the establishment number "EST P-9018."
The USDA says that it considers the blue plastic a potential health threat and has ranked the recall as Class I – health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death." Nestle has traced the blue plastic to a lot of raw ingredients shipped to a Lean Cuisine facility.
