Jardine Crib Recall Expanded Due to Safety Risk

January 2009

Jardine crib recall is expanded. Jardine Enterprises and federal safety regulators have announced the expansion of a crib recall that was issued in June. Faulty wooden slats and spindles on the cribs can break, potentially entrapping and strangling infants.

Jardine’s original recall included 320,000 cribs made in China and has been expanded to include 56,450 more. Federal regulators have received almost 20 new reports of crib slats breaking, nine of which involved infants or toddlers breaking the slats while in the crib. The following cribs are included in the new recall:

  • Dark Pine Olympia Lifetime Crib, model number DA715BC
  • Antique Walnut Capri Single Crib, model number 0108L00
  • White Capri Lifetime Crib, model number 0308C00

The defective productswere sold at Toys "R" Us, Babies "R" Us, KidsWorld, and Geoffrey Stores from March 2004 through early January 2009.

After the original recall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission admitted that the cribs were not as strong as they should be but allowed similar models of Jardine cribs to remain on the market. Since September 2007, more than three million U.S. cribs have been recalled.
