June 2010
Over 2 million cribs sold by Evenflo, Delta Enterprise Corp., and five other manufacturers have been recalled. There are concerns that babies can suffocate, become trapped, or fall from the cribs.
The following cribs are included in the recall:
The movable side on the dangerous cribs can malfunction or detach. This creates a gap where babies’ heads can become stuck, leading to suffocation or strangulation. There have been more than 250 reports of drop-sides detaching or failing, and at least 16 children have become entrapped.
Over 9 million drop-side cribs have been recalled in the past five years, and the defective products have been linked to the deaths of at least 32 children since 2000. The chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission has said that the agency wants to enact a ban on drop-side cribs by the end of the year.
