Chemicals in Cosmetics Linked to Increased Diabetes Risk in Women

cosmetic diabetes link

Many people use cosmetics like nail polish, hairspray, and perfume every day without thinking twice. However, a new study found that chemicals commonly found in these beauty products may pose a serious health risk to women.

In the study, researchers from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences analyzed samples from over 2,000 women for chemicals known as phthalates. Researchers found that women with the highest concentration of phthalates were almost two times more likely to develop diabetes than the women with the least amount of chemicals. Additionally, women with moderately high levels of phthalates were 70 percent more likely to have diabetes than their counterparts.

According to researchers, phthalates are known to disrupt hormone regulation and have been linked to diabetes and obesity. Phthalates are often found in personal care products, adhesives, electronics, car parts, toys, packaging, and some medicine coatings.
