How Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® Are Selected
The four stages involved in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® selection:
- General Survey
- Screening Process
- Blue Ribbon Panel
- Final Selection Process
General Survey - Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® Selection
The General Survey begins with tens of thousands of ballots being distributed to attorneys across Pennsylvania, who vote for the best Pennsylvania lawyers they have "seen in action."
Rigorous standards are applied to the ballots review process. Any "back-scratch" votes, which occur when lawyers agree to vote for each other, eliminate a lawyer from the list.
Screening Process - Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® Selection
The Screening Process involves the review of Pennsylvania lawyer credentials by the Super Lawyers® research staff. Attorneys are scored based upon defined evaluation criteria.
At this time, lawyers are also reviewed to make sure that they are properly licensed in Pennsylvania, in good standing with the Bar, and have no history of disciplinary actions.
Blue Ribbon Panel Review - Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® Selection
Nominated lawyers are divided into different practice areas, and a Blue Ribbon Panel is assembled for each of the practice areas. The panel consists of the top point-getters from previous rounds of selection.
These Blue Ribbon Panels review the list of nominated Pennsylvania lawyers within their own areas of practice. Positive or negative point totals are then assigned for each nominated lawyer.
Final Selection - Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® Selection
Adding all scores from the first three rounds, Final Selection assigns a final score for each nominated attorney. Nominated PA lawyers are divided according to the size of their law firm – small, medium and large.
The top lawyers within each size category are then named Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® for the year in focus. Those chosen consist of the top 5% of the attorneys in Pennsylvania, the best in the state.
